Fins and coils do not have to be cleaned. Evaporator coils and fins in air conditioners allow heat to move from the system's refrigerant into your home. Layers of dust and filth might obstruct this vital heat-transfer mechanism, similar to how condenser coils absorb the warmth within a house.
